This a minor – but highly recommended – update to SharpMT and Pocket SharpMT 2.0. The 2.01 release makes a couple of minor fixes to the MT-RPC communication layer that should improve MT communication and a couple of UI modifications to the desktop version. The 2.01 version can be installed over an existing 2.0 copy without any known issues – all existing settings should be OK. I’m also hoping it fixes compatibility issues with dasBlog.
Thanks to Eric at http://www.fullofnothing.org/ SharpMT (and Pocket SharpMT) now have a “created by” web button for your Blog! To add a to your Blog, add the following HTML code to your page:
<a href=”https://www.randyrants.com/sharpmt”><img src=”https://www.randyrants.com/images/sharpmt.gif” border=”0″ alt=”Created with SharpMT”></a>
Or take a copy of the GIF file – there’s also a .png file there too! – for your Blog server; that’s cool too! Thanks again Eric!
The preview description has got the most up to date information on this new release – the FAQ has been updated as well. Also, this should not prevent SharpMT 1.x from running, provided that you install it to a separate directory (which the installer does by default) and I’m pretty confident that the ugliest of issues are gone from this beta. Please contact me with any problems that you uncover! A lot of times people download it and have a problem with it but never tell me – SharpMT can’t get better if I don’t know that it has crashed!
Lastly Pocket SharpMT 2.0 has not started development
yet, but it will begin once the desktop version is up and running.
I’m ready for a “sneak-preview” of SharpMT 2 – I do find a good deal of bugs just by writing up some Blog entries… all the more reason for a new entry. Actually, I won’t tell you how many times I had to recompile just to get this Entry out – just part of the process. I’ll include some screen shots at the bottom of the post but since a lot of the changes aren’t that visual, I think a pre-release feature list is in order. Here’s the dilemma: I need to make some massive changes to SharpMT and if I make them, I fear that I’ll end up orphaning some of the existing settings for some of the options… one of the changes would be making a new “working” directory at \Documents and Settings\\Application Data\RandyRants.com\SharpMT directory – which I should have done from day 1, but that’s another story – and another is converting the drafts file from one massive .XML file to individual files… at least that’s the thought. However, if I make changes like these, the existing settings will be lost… so I’d like a public option on this. Continue reading Quandary: SharpMT 2.0 (and Pocket SharpMT 2.0)→
Announcing the official release of SharpMT 1.3! The 1.3 version adds handful of new features to SharpMT, and again, they’re from user feedback: support for post dated posts, support for the WMP9 blogging plug-in, an enhanced Add URL’s link box, and a few UI changes. The important links to know about:
Another feature added! There’s now a new tab on the Add URL dialog called Favorites. On this tab you’ll find a list of bookmarks that your have on you Favorites menu in Windows/IE. If you select a URL from this list it will be added into your Draft. Download 1.3 Beta 3 here and read the updated FAQ. Continue reading SharpMT – 1.3 Beta 3→
Thought it might be wise to keep both products going at the same time. Actually, this will cause Pocket SharpMT to jump to 1.3 for it’s initial release, but that’s no big deal. I want to keep them together because the blogDrafts.xml file can be shared across the desktop and Pocket version (if your Pocket PC can handle the large XML file!) So 1.3 of SharpMT brings a few new features and a couple of bug fixes… Download 1.3 Beta 1 here and read the updated FAQ. Continue reading SharpMT – 1.3 Beta 1→
One of the things that never seems to stop surprising me is how the Blogging world is inter-connected. Granted a tool like Technorati does help a good deal, but these connections seem to come of their own accord. Thing is that I’ve noticed an increase of traffic lately and I was curious to see where it was coming from – I attribute some of this new traffic to some particular blogs out there. One of them is Ensight, which is a group forum by fellow Technologists. The other is one that I recently discovered: ***Dave Does the Blog. ***Dave has completely blown me away by using SharpMT to help in a full24-hour Blog-a-thon. I’m thrilled because not only has the code kept up with his heavy blogging but… well… it’s just fuckin’ cool! Sorry. Had a Geek-moment!
