Whoo, man, I’ve lived that very scene before and with an iPod no less…
It sucks.

c|net: Microsoft has unveiled the second generation of Zune digital music players and will offer consumers 1 million unprotected songs on its online music store.
Finally some news on new Zune devices! Yes, I’m getting this same off at the same time that you are: the Zune team has been extremely quiet on their latest plans, which is one of the reasons why I bought an iPod nano a couple of weeks ago without shame. How do I hold off buying a new player if I don’t know what’s coming? Now that I do know, is it causing Buyer’s Remorse? Not yet – in fact, I’m eying the 80GB Zune rather than the flash-based Zune models, but I’ll have to get my hands on hardware before feeling anything one way or the other.
I do like how c|net takes features specific to the iPod touch and iPhone and applies them to the whole iPod family – means they get a whole bunch of information wrong.

Back it goes. The last straw was the video playback. I made the mistake of looking at The Italian Job clip on a proper iPhone today and noticed two rouge/dead pixels while playing back video on my iPod touch.
Instead I have a very shiny black iPod nano sitting next to me… in fact, I’m prepared to call the iPod touch the loser of the current iPod line up.

So the new iPods have hit the street. Er, hit the interwebs, since the stores won’t have stock until the weekend. I haven’t bought a new iPod in a while. A long while. Three years? Maybe. Generation 5. I was given an iPod nano for a gift two years ago – I think that was the last “new” iPod I’ve brought into the house… that means I’m due for an upgrade.
Which model am I going to buy?
Right now, I have to say… none of them.

For those of you that don’t have a Windows 2000 or XP but have an iPod, well, frankly? Upgrade your box. XP is over five years old now, so what’s the deal? Jeesh.
Anyway, it looks like there’s a new plug-in for WinAMP5 that interfaces with iPods… I personally think that Xplay from MediaFour is a better way to go for the 95/98/Me crowd, but I thought I’d pass this along anyway…
I’ve had gift cards collecting on my kitchen counter for the over a year now. I love the little buggers – hard plastic works out so much better than the old fashioned paper gift certificates (which are easily destroyed). I usually get a bunch of gift cards over the holiday season and I normally spend the first two months of a new year debating on what to buy. Last year I got too busy with work to think about it, which is why I had a surplus that included a mall-based card, a Filene’s card, and an AmEx-certificate. Today I went shopping for slippers.
