New Governor for WA, Finally

Ridiculous. Now that the Democrats have won the Governor seat after two different recounts and randomly added votes, they are strutting toward Olympia. Mind you these are the same people that had to have the hand recount because “machines make mistakes” [and humans don’t?!] – these same people are now offended by the Republicans that are asking for a “second” election. If the Democrats are so positive that their candidate won fairly, why not have a second election? It’s not like any of the counts or recounts were all that conclusive – the fact that they made the comment of “the Republicans only want another election because they lost” just pissed me off… like the Democrats demanded two recounts only because they were concerned about fairness?

Right. I’m officially insulted but this latest twist.

New Blogger on the Scene

Chuck’s Journal: I was watching the news the other night and a story from Texas where the parents sold their kids Christmas presents on e-bay (all three boys were to get the new Nintendo DS and games).

I heard the same story and did a Snoopy-esque dance of joy when I heard it, since I agreed with the TX parents whole heartedly… even more so that they donated the money they got via the auction to their local church! As a parent, Chuck’s got some more to say about it [and for the readers that have been here from the beginning, this is the same Chuck that’s been mentioned in previous posts!]

Random Encounters in Small Packages

I popped into my once-local Starbucks during my Thanksgiving trip to CT and was greeted by three different crew members that working there during the summer. Today I stopped in – if only because I hadn’t had a mocha in a about a week – and bumped into a few more crew members, one of which was the Evil Midget – she made a few Blog appearances while I was book writing. Seems that she was transfered to a different store a few months ago and was only in the Orange store to pick up supplies – I find it funny that we bumped into each other, given that we’ve both been relocated for our jobs, but such is life here…

Should explain why I was so intrigued by the anonymity I gained by moving to WA!

“That Said FIVE?”

Back to the hometown. It was snowing all along the i-95 corridor but it wasn’t sticking until I headed north, deeper into Connecticut. Then I hit my hometown, which was like crossing into a snow globe. Rented an SUV to drive up from JFK because of it, actually. Since I hadn’t read an email for over twelve hours, I had to get online – while talking to a friend in IM, I sent over a Weather.com link to share the current weather: 19 degrees/feels like 5 and it’s supposed to be 50-ish on Wednesday.

I don’t think people believed me, when I described winter in New England, but this is typical.

Another Candidate for State Number 51?

Reuters: Cuban Defense Minister Raul Castro warned the United States on Tuesday not to repeat its mistakes in Vietnam and Iraq by invading Cuba because its armed forces and civilian population were ready to resist.

Um, why would we want them? I mean, has someone been circulating a rumor that we’re planning to sack Cuba? Did I miss another memo? If anything, I would think that Raul would be asking us if we are going to lift our cigar sanction on his nation – not attempting to taunting us into a new offensive, by telling us that they’re ready to defend themselves… I just don’t get it.

The Quest for an iPod Replacement

You heard me. I need something to replace my iPod at work… I have a computer that is more than capable of playing music, so why not use it? Why keep lugging a portable MP3 player to and from work everyday, when there’s a PC there? It’s not like I take the iPod with me from office to office – it sits in its Dock and never comes off AC power… that can’t be good for it, yet I need music, so how can I get by without an iPod?

Benched NBA Players

I usually have very, very little interest in the NBA. I find watching basketball to be boring – every 3.5 seconds, there’s a game stop for some reason… I think it would be better if they removed the foul system and allowed full contact. Although that would make it an ice-less version of hockey, I guess. Anyway, I do wonder if fouling a fan impacts your foul count.

Old Friends

Nothing quite like seeing old friends making the Sunday paper! Steve Dallas makes an appearance in Opus this week. As a long time fan of Bloom County – and I mean from day one fan – it’s good to see characters like Bill the Cat and Steve making cameos. Maybe there’s some hope that Cutter John and the Starship Enterpoop or even the Banana Jr. 6000 might some day resurface, but I doubt that would happen… and dammit, I miss Milo.

Then again, there was a Billy and the Boingers reference a couple of weeks ago, so I guess anything is possible!

Service Restored… Sorta

Three attempts later and the site is back up and running. The first attempt was trial. The second attempt was error (had to delete the blog and start over – first I got confused and then TypePad did). The third attempt is what you see here and I’m pretty satisfied with it.

Most everything is back to form except for links between posts – I tried, but some are pointing to the wrong locations but I doubt anyone cares… basically MT took this last opportunity to screw me: it dupicated a bunch of posts and I didn’t notice until it was too late to deal with it. Also the RSS feed URL’s have changed so please update your readers. Software downloads and their FAQ’s are in the same location. The site also seems zippier now… aside from that, if you find any broken pictures, links or truely ugly issues, please leave me a note!
