Ironically, my piss ant, bass-ackwards, small town is just beyond the eastern most edge of this massive blackout that has sacked towns from Detroit, MI to Fairfield County, CT to Toronto, Canada. My parents have no power and they’re only 5 or 6 miles away. There are Metro-North trains that I would ordinarily be on that have been stranded between stations for hours. Radio and TV stations are off the air all over western CT and parts of NY. New York City has people clogging the streets as they walk out of MTA terminals, leaving stuck subway trains behind. As near as I can tell this is the first mass blackout since some time in the late 70’s but my mother likens this to the “blackout of 1965” – either way it’s a major outage and I still have power… scary.

Pocket SharpMT – 1.3 Beta 6
More subtle changes for Pocket SharpMT while the socket disconnects get looked at. Pocket #MT can now insert information from the Contacts data store and the “Add URL” dialog now returns focus to the control that last had it. The only other change is that I’m no longer including SH3 and MIPS CABs as I hear that only ARM chips are included in Pocket PC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003 devices. If you’re on a PC download 1.3 Beta 6 here or read the FAQ. On a PIE, download the CAB file here: ARM.

Santi: Memoirs of an Italian Geek
A new Geek book has been released: Memoirs of an Italian Geek by R. L. Santi. I’m told it will show up on Amazon and Barnes and Noble but right now it’s available here in paperback thanks to iUniverse. Call me biased but I thought it might interest a number of the readers here – the majority of you are just as much a Geek as I am.
Pocket SharpMT – 1.3 Beta 5
I think I’ve come to terms with the connection/hanging problems and wanted to get it out there so this got released quickly – this is the last bug to disappear before I kick both 1.3’s out the door. I’m hoping that these fixes take care of the hanging-while-posting bug and the missing-assembly-bug but there’s a trade off for it… on a PC download 1.3 Beta 5 here or read the FAQ. On a PIE, download the cab here: ARM.

Pocket SharpMT – 1.3 Beta 4
And now for another Beta of Pocket SharpMT. 1.3 Beta 4 has a few bug fixes and two new features, which keeps it on par with SharpMT (1.3/Beta 1) which got a couple of new features last week. Download Beta 4 and read the FAQ for more info.

SharpMT – 1.3 Beta 1
Thought it might be wise to keep both products going at the same time. Actually, this will cause Pocket SharpMT to jump to 1.3 for it’s initial release, but that’s no big deal. I want to keep them together because the blogDrafts.xml file can be shared across the desktop and Pocket version (if your Pocket PC can handle the large XML file!) So 1.3 of SharpMT brings a few new features and a couple of bug fixes… Download 1.3 Beta 1 here and read the updated FAQ.

For Lease, By Owner: Coder
It’s official: I’ve been laid off by my daytime employer. Ironically, this is some pretty freakin’ good news… I know that might sound weird but, honestly, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Metrosexual?
Is this life imitating art? Or art imitating life? Or just another fabricated buzzword for the sake of an article? Hard to say… I saw it on MSN earlier today, and while I think the majority of the article stems from the hype of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, a good amount of it hit a little close to home…

Hospital Food
For the last 48 hours I’ve been sustaining myself mostly on hospital food and it’s forced me to make an observation. OK, observation might be too strong a work… nothing earth shattering but it’s something I’ve realized over a set of recent events from my life.

Why Steve Sucks
Rare for me to attack a fellow online blogger, much less some that’s been a great friend for almost ten years, but Steve really sucks. He always seems to start these side projects that end up costing me money, time and energy. It happens every so often, but it is an ongoing process. He finds a great new toy or mentions a neat project in passing and I have to have one of my own or act on the idea… his Windows Media Center Edition based PC is one of the more recent things that has made me think “Hmmm”.

oOoo! Reflective Rainbows!
I’ve got a little bit of wisdom to offer the Puerto Rican population of New York and Connecticut: CD’s need to go into a stereo system to be heard. This seems like it should be common sense, no? It’s not. I’ve seen more CD’s hanging from mirrors over the last few weeks to cause this little fortune cookie sized bit of advice to be formed.

Pocket SharpMT – 1.2 Beta 3
Held off on this release for a few of hours, with the hope that some more bugs (or features) would turn up from beta 2. Beta 3 includes a couple of SIP enhancements, a major bug fix for some menu items, and a bug fix for category handling. Download Beta 3 and read the FAQ for more info.

Pocket SharpMT – 1.2 Beta 2
I hate early beta releases… updates come far too quickly and this beta is no different than the first SharpMT beta. And so, here is Beta 2 of Pocket SharpMT 1.2! Couple of bug fixes that corrected some of the font types/sizes and a couple of small new features. Download version 1.2 Beta 2 here – the FAQ has also been updated for this release…

Pocket SharpMT – 1.2 Beta 1
Announcing the initial release of Pocket SharpMT 1.2! What’s Pocket SharpMT? It’s a version of SharpMT that has been designed for Pocket PC 2002 devices – it should also work on the Phone Edition of Pocket PC’s and Windows Mobile 2003, but I haven’t tested them yet; that’s what betas are for! How can an initial release start at version 1.2? Simple: I plan to evolve SharpMT and Pocket SharpMT at the same time so they should have the same version number. If you have a Pocket PC device read the FAQ and download the CAB files here.

Outages
Lately there’s been some news stories being published lately about a ring of hackers that have been attacking web servers with Denial of Service attacks and it’s been wreaking havoc all over the ‘net – if this site is up and down over the next week or two it will return! I am not shutting down the site, so if it’s out of commission give it a little while and it should be back up within the hour. Of course posting a “we might be down” message to a web site is like telling someone “if you came back to read this note, don’t come back here!” but it’s the best I could do.
