The First Twenty-Four

Now that Super Smash Bros. Brawl has been out for over 24 hours, can someone tell me: how is it? Living up to the hype? A rehash of Super Smash Bros. Melee with new artworks? And if so, is that a good or bad thing?

Curious if I have reason to power up the Wii or not…

  1. This game is fucking awesome. I really wasn’t looking forward to it, I figured it would be the same as its been since the N64 days, but its not. The story mode alone makes it worth the buy. I’m having a ton of fun with it.

  2. Really! I was reading reviews around the intertubes and was seeing the story was short (and kinda weak) and the multi-player was the same as Melee. With the noted except that there’s online play (albeit 25% of the games suffer from uberlag).

Even so… I still might have to take a look. I dig on the fact that you can use Wiimote, Wiimote + Nunchuk, Classic or GameCube controller. Would be good to put the Wavebird I bought a while ago to good use. At a minimum, it’ll make me appreciate Xbox LIVE some more :)

  3. The adventure mode is really lame and I haven’t been able to make the online mode work yet… it just says searching for players until it timesout. That being said, the rest of the game is top notch. The UI is sleek and very polished. Lots of multiplayer modes to play with you friends on the same console. The gameplay seems fairly well balanced with only a couple characters being mildly nerfed (*cough fox). Probably one of the best parts of the game is fighting over the smashballs (you have to break them open) that allow your character to unleash a special devestating smash move. Overall I’d say I’m quite impressed with it.

  4. I can’t seem to get the online mode to work either, but I’m having a blast with the story mode, so it hasn’t bothered me at all.
