MSNBC: Giuliani dropping out of Republican race

Meh. Now I have to go take yet another bumper sticker off my Jeep… pah.

Either way, this country deserves whatever it gets, after this election, be it the anamatronic whitehead, the “new” Kennedy, or the chick – considering those options I very well may take an interest in maple leafs.

  1. Ha ha, I’m not at work today so I can reply to this and say how ridiculously awesome this announcement was and how much it made my day.

  2. Thank god, we didn’t need 4 years of hearing that worthless war monger talk about how awesome he was during 9/11.

  3. Oh yeah, now instead we’ll have 4 years of hearing that everything is wrong with no solutions on how to fix it. Joy.

Of course, your comment is the typical idiotic dribble that can be expected – no one gives the guy credit for what he did for NYC for the other 7 years that he was in office… *that’s* why I wanted him as a President. But if you’re not from NYC, you wouldn’t know that, neh?

Only believe what the media tells you, neh?

  4. *ahem* born in Brooklyn, thank you very much. The guy was an average mayor turned media super hero due to 9/11. He really didn’t accomplish much. He just rode his fame til it gave out. Which thankfully it did, and Wednesday proved it.

  5. You could be from my sister’s ass, what is your point?

If you can honestly sit there and tell me that New York City was not a better city in 2000 – in terms of tourism, theft, muggings, asault, and shootings – that it was when Dinkins was in office in 1990-1994 or Koch in his last term, then I’ve got no business talking to you. That he was the rock for the City after 9/11 was simply another case of how good of a leader he was for EIGHT years, rather than the just the last four weeks of it. The fact that the media chose to parade him around as “the 9/11 guy” doesn’t take away that he turned NYC around in all aspects during his two terms. But of course it’s easier to just say you’re from Brooklyn and think you know everything about it… like I said, I shouldn’t even bother talking to you about it.

The fact that you can even see a blog with your head shoved so far up your ass is remarkable enough and I don’t want to take away from the spectacle that it is.

  6. Well, his political career isn’t really over. If he chooses, he could run for NY Senate or Governor in 2010.

McCain might choose him as the VP running mate on the GOP Ticket – if McCain becomes the nominee (although a McCain-Lieberman ticket would also be quite interesting :-).

  7. Not claiming that I know everything about New York, far from it, I was just responding to your ignorant pot shot. And I read it, and really wasn’t impressed. The guy was an average mayor, nothing special, and certainly not presidential material.

  8. Maybe I don’t remember too much about US history, but I recall most Presidents were either Governors or Senators before they came to the White House.

It was unfortunate that he had to drop out of the 2000 Senatorial race against Hillary Clinton. If he had won that race, he would have a better chance for the nomination as Senator Giuliani.

  9. Of all the US Presidents, 17 were State Governors, 15 were US Senators, and 12 were Military Generals.

    Former Mayors?

    1) Andrew Johnson, Mayor of Greeneville, Tennessee, 1830-1833

    2) Grover Cleveland, Mayor of Buffalo, New York, 1881-1883

    3) Calvin Coolidge, Mayor of Northampton, Massachusetts, 1910-1911

Calvin Coolidge and Andrew Johnson also held the office of Vice President, and Grover Cleveland was also Governor of NY State. Looks like nobody has ever made the leap from Mayor to President of the United States.

  10. Obed, blah blah blah. Just be happy that his toothy dentured grin won’t haunt the presidential election, and shut up for once.

    :)
