One Of THOSE Days

I might just go home and call for a Do Over tomorrow.

I think it started last night…

I’m in a games programming class. It’s been an OK program – if anything, it’s given me insight into what a games programmer is and while I’m pretty sure I could do the work, I just don’t think it’s my thing. Anyway, it’s slated to run for a year – I’m in the third class of the required four. It’s been an ugly quarter. Brand new teacher assigning 30 hours worth of work per week with limited resources being offered during class with no common code base to start from. It’s like being told to build a house with only half the tools, a quarter of the resources required and in less time than would be expected. The only thing you do have is a whole lotta plans to look at. It was bad enough that we rebooted the class mid-way. That was good, but we didn’t adjust the time line of projects, so it was still a lot of work. And then work itself got uber busy… hard to justify spending your entire weekend on homework when you feel like you have to spend your entire weekend on work-related work.

Work Life Balance? Yeah, I’ve heard of it. I don’t think it applies anymore.

So I spent most of last week with the intension of dropping the class. I figure I’d try the fourth quarter of the program and retake the third if need be… even that is embarrassing, to me. I had only ever dropped one class throughout all those years of college… then I talked to some people at work on Friday who talked me into not dropping the class. I worked on last weeks project and this weeks project on Friday night. And Saturday morning. And Saturday afternoon and night and Sunday day. I submitted last week’s on Saturday afternoon; I finished this week’s last night. Just before I was about to send off this week’s bits and got back a “Sorry, this project is [16 hours] late so I’m not accepting it. If you finish the rest of the class maybe I’ll take a look at it.”

What the bloody hell?

Then I said “ah, well, lemme catch up on Heroes”. SciFi channel had a marathon this Saturday. I recorded all but one episode. Some of the later episodes got mangled by the DVR… last night I discovered that all but 2 were mangled. 2 out of 21 recorded. So much for all that praise that I had for Comcast.

Went to work today. No badge. Forgot that the lil belt pully thingy broke yesterday – forgot to grab it this morning. Took 15 minutes to get my “Dumb Ass Forgot His ID” sticker from reception.

Either today is going to be a great day to find bugs or I’m going to get kicked in the shins yet again by Bad Geek Karma
