Object Lesson: Innovation

Watching a recap-blurb on American Idol, on Q13Fox, they showed a Seattle hopeful in her first round audition. I had forgotten that American Idol was more like The Gong Show early on rather than Star Search… I’ve never watched it. Never seen an episode of Baywatch or The OC either, for that matter; didn’t catch up with 24 until the fifth season day.

Anyway, the clip they showed had some blonde chick singing almost like a eunuch with a supporting role in an opera. Wasn’t a manly voice but it wasn’t a female voice either. Simon asked her “what are we supposed to say to that?” She replied, “I sing in an innovative way, that no one else has ever heard before!”

Object lesson, in what I’m calling Randy’s Axiom 1: “just because something is innovative, it doesn’t make it good because it’s innovative”.
