Well, I’ve got power, cable, ‘net, and VPN access back at my house, but over 500,000 other people don’t yet.
It’s been a hell of a weekend already.
For the first time in years I had no power for just about 24 hours.
Did I go insane?
Actually, no. We were supposed to be moving cubes at work, so I went there for a while: they had no power too, but it was still warmer there than it was at my house. After that I came home: it was cold – I had the fireplace going from 4 to 10 – but it wasn’t so bad. While it was light out, I read. Ya know, like a book. And thankful that I didn’t switch to that Sony eBook Reader thingy. It’s very posh and readable but still… I like the fact that a book can’t run outta power :)
Then I switched to the PSP for some InuYasha. Had about eight episodes on the memory stick and the battery had plenty of juice for that. Then I grabbed my Zune for some Battlestar Galactica – battery on that lasted for three and a half episodes. Next thing I knew it was after 10, so I went to pass out… only to wake back up at 11:38pm, when the power popped back on. I’ll never understand what causes me to wake up when power is lost or restored; I’ve been that way since I was a kid, but I never understood it. Maybe there’s an audible pop when power gets pulled from furnaces or something… since I was sleeping in my spare bedroom – and that’s the room with the loudest and fastest heating duct – it could have been the fan noise.
Anyway, considering that there’s at least 500,000 people still without power in the state, I’m considering myself very, very lucky to have both power – much less cable – working at my house.
I should think about getting gas for my Jeep at some point, though – that’s been a whole other process this weekend!
DAMN YOU RANDY! I just got power today!!!
HO SHVIT! Where in the hell are you at??? Side of Mt Baker? :)
no, I am on the uphill side of bridal trails state park.
It was because 132 was closed for 6 days and we get power from there, then it took them 2 more to fix the immediate problem in my neighborhood.
