Caught this short interview with Rudy Giuliani on this morning’s news, as part of “Five Years Ago Today” montage that’s going through the nation today… he’s just a class act. Polished politician? Doesn’t sound slick or greasy, yet doesn’t sound raw either. He certainly said a couple of things that most people don’t say when being interviewed, i.e. he thought that we would have been attacked again before now. When asked “if you were president these last five years, what would you have done differently” rather than do the typical and popular tearing down of [insert a republican or democrat here] he talks about all of the stuff that has gone well and then follows it up with “we still have more to do”. Even down to the latest hot topic of “health care”… he answered how I would have: “fix the problem, not the blame”.
Should he run for President in 2008, I will actively support his campaign no matter which party he runs for.
I also found it amusing that Christy Todd-Whitman was part of the broadcast – I still say that’s the dream ticker for 2008: Giuliani/Todd-Whitman. Think about it… a catholic divorced American-Italian running with a woman with a hyphenated name… would they win? Hard to say… while they’re both personally diverse and politically moderate enough to appeal to everyone, I think they’d also be able to piss off everyone at the same time.
Still. I’d love to see it. Someone a frank as Rudy in the federal government could be a whoot. I could just hear “Stop fucking around and fix the problem” during cabinet meetings…
Would rule.
I would vote for him also, but that is why neither party would touch him because he can’t be bought and control with Special Interest groups.
Sigh, are we really stuck with another Al Gore bid for president. Can’t the democrats at least run someone i would really vote for ?
Be careful what you wish for, you may get it. Whitman is a complete moron, as dumb as George Bush.
Yeah, but dumb is relative. W could be a complete moronic coke head – if he surrounds himself with smart people, the best of their respective areas, then I have no beef. That’s my limited expectation of leadership: find the smart people in your inner circle and let them work. We’ve elected people that couldn’t find their way out of a wet brown paper bag, but because their cabinet was strong, they appeared strong. Ronny ran 80-84; Nancy ran 84-88. Who’s to say Nancy didn’t run 80-88? I mean we elected an ACTOR… that’s like getting Justin Timberlake to be a curator at the Met.
IMHO, that’s the biggest let down for W: surrounding himself with lackluster people. Wittman? Should be better at it, having gotten into and out of NJ. I mean who else would be a good Veep for Giuliani? McCain? How many times can that jamoke run???
On another note, Howard Stern replayed his Sept-11 broadcast from 2001 today. In five years the populous went from “WAR ON EVERYONE!” to “WHY ARE WE IN A WAR!”… I never would have thought the headstrong American population could be manipulated so easily, but what do I know? :)
