March Madness

The Women’s College Basketball tournament begins soon – the tournament seeds were announced today. This NCAA tournament threatens to blow my mind.

First off, props to my alma marta for getting into the Big Dance. Sacred Heart‘s previous claim to athletic fame came from the mens basketball team winning the Div II title in 1986 and when the “new” football team went 5-4 in their first season in the early 90’s. SHU entered Division I in 1998 and now offers over 30 sports – a far cry from my freshman year, when they were a Div II/III school with only seven sports – and they’re already breaking into the NCAA tourney. That just kicks ass.

The other thing that has me goin’ “errr?” is that they’re having one of the regional branches of this thing in Bridgeport, CT. I mean I know UConn is in the Dance every year and I noticed Hartford got in this year… but… well… um… I guess Harbor Yard is a better venue that I was giving it credit for. Jeesh.

On the other hand, since when did CT become Indiana for womens basketball?
