When Knowing Isn’t Half The Battle

The new SDA is available at the local T-Mobile. Yet, as I told Anna, I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t need it, and I told Steve, I’m doing everything in my power to keep my fat ass in my [office] chair. Here’s the punch line: it’s because I bought a new vacuum yesterday.

Um. Like, w00t or something?

First the issue with the SDA. For years I’ve waited for T-Mobile to finally put some skin in the US market and offer a good Windows Mobile device. The SDA is OK. I’m not too keen on the candy bar style phone though. Yes, it’s what I have now. Yes, it’s what I’ve had for two years. And yes, that’s why I’m not keen on it anymore! I keep my phone in my pocket… so with a candy bar, the main screen gets scratched easily. The keypad has to locked at all times. To make a call with my Bluetooth headset, I have to take out the phone, unlock the keypad, then either dial the number or use voice dialing – if I had a clamshell, I could leave it unlocked and use the BT headset for voice dialing…

The problem is almost no OEM’s are making clamshells this go around and nothing at all close to the RAZR design… driving me fuckin’ nuts. Oh there is a rumour of one from Asus… selling as an i-Mate phone. Meaning EU only. Hence the extra u in rumor. But that’s it. And God knows when that would hit the US shores for $1299 or some stupid price since no US carrier is bringing it here. I refuse to play along.

So then I got to thinking… if I’m going to be stuck with a candy bar phone, why not get something with a keyboard, because it would prolly have WiFi? Then I remembered: every keyboard phone is a honkin’ sized pocket PC phone. Bricks. The lot of them. Except for maybe the Treo 700w or the Motorola Q which is still sorta big but not too big. Of course, the first one isn’t on GSM and the other is still a wet pipe dream. Total bunk.

What the hell?!

*sigh*

I’m not doing it… not yet. I’ll wait until the SDA isn’t the “hot item of the week” and then pick one up. Maybe. Besides, my wallet is currently dented from a new Dyson DC15 vacuum. “The Ball”. It’s a Geeky vacuum too. It’s like zoom all over the floor and corners better than my car does… it’s neat. Powerful. Uses electricity.

Less painful to buy than the phone, any rate.
