Jensen Harris: The good news for fans of usability worldwide is that an historical moment is upon us. As of Tuesday [17-Jan-06], we have officially flipped the switch to turn off Personalized Menus by default for all apps in all future builds of Office 12.

…and there was much rejoicing in the streets!

Honestly though, I think it says a lot about the Office team… I remember when this was touted as a good feature, and maybe it was at the time, but I’ve personally never liked it. For the group to admit that it’s no longer useful and make this change is even better news.

FWIW, remember that New UI programs based on the Ribbon, of course, were designed without Personalized Menus from the beginning. – w00t!

On another note, how about that for up to the minute product updates? Wild.
