SharpMT – 1.0 Final

Announcing the final release of SharpMT 1.0! I went for a few days without any new bugs being reported and even fewer “small” feature requests, and that tells me that this project is now complete – “big” feature requests got pushed to a later release. What does SharpMT do? The short answer is that it’s an offline Blog writer tool for MovableType based Blogs. Check the FAQ for a longer answer, including some information about the features of SharpMT. Where can you download SharpMT? Get the 1.0 Release of SharpMT here. What’s next for SharpMT? Read on…

SharpMT only took about seven days to code and another seven days of Beta releases and bug fixes before I considered it ready for mass consumption. This should speak volumes for C#.NET… I figure I’d still just finishing up the original code if I went with MFC – and that’s after working with MFC for over five years – and would still be another week or two away from the first beta, with C++ and the Win32 SDK. Anyway, SharpMT has been making it way around the Blogging world and I’ve gotten some great feedback on it. In fact, most of the later betas included features that were direct requests from users. A few people seemed surprised that I was responsive to bug reports and feature requests… large software houses have marketing groups and research people and QA departments. I have the Blogging community and peer reviews as my technical staff! SharpMT users are who made SharpMT a better product over the betas – why wouldn’t I be responsive to them?

Anyway, this release is a “major” milestone. For this programmer, it’s time for some R&R, a compiler upgrade, and some brainstorming before I start working on a 1.1 release. To those of you that don’t know, I’m also beginning to look for a new “day” job because my current one is having nothing but trouble lately. Even I know when to cut my losses and bail, even after 6.25 years. The net result of this is that I don’t know how much free time I’ll have to code at home – if I land a “real” job that prevents me from doing any home coding… well, I’ll deal with that if it were to actually happen. I doubt it will, as most east coast based jobs are “IT-positions” and they usually don’t care what you do in the off hours. As I get closer to working on 1.1, I’ll post another update on some planned features with an estimated time line of releases…

That’s about it for now. I’ve got to get back to integrating some of my proofreading team’s comments on my manuscript/book – I plan to get that published before the summer begins – and see what Dice.com can tell me about my future.

Download 1.0 of SharpMT now and happy Blogging to everyone!

  1. Congratulations on finishing your project (I still keep wanting to call it a program).

I think I will always want it to be an offline composer and an editor all-in-one (even though that was never your goal), but I think your “edit in MT” solution was a great compromise.

Thanks for sharing SharpMT with all of us, you did a great job!

  2. @Promo – Yer welcome dude :) Edit is working OK for ya then? I can’t remember when I added that, but I never heard “boo” about it, so I figured it was working OK… kinda of a CopOut I know, but it IS functional!

  3. I just upgraded over the last Beta and I don’t see Edit in MT.. Where is it?? Maybe I am just blind.

    Great work!

  4. @Doc – It’s for the sync’d lists… right click one and it should be there… if it’s not, make sure ya got 1.0.8 :)

  5. SharpMT 1.0 Final now available.

For those of you who are running MovableType based blogs and who are looking for a nice off-line entry editor Randy has announced that SharpMT – 1.0 Final is now available and ready for use. I mentioned this editor a week or so ago and Randy has manage…

  6. Hey,

Great program! I really like it. One small item though… do you think it might be possible to alphabetize the Primary Category drop-down-box?

    Thanks,

  7. One thing, not a major one, is the extended entry text box is not adjustable. That is, I can’t shrink it be grabbing the top or botton part of the box.

As a result, when I maximize the program window, the Extended text area grows in relation to the program’s window size, but the main entry text window stay the same smaller size. In most cases, I’d like the main entry text window to be the larger of the two.

Also, in a future build, I hope you will support drag and drop text from one text window to another.
