Dare I say it? Gold? RTM? Release Candidate 1? I guess I could, but it’s sorta silly when there’s no manufacturing group to release it to! Today’s Build-that-wasn’t-supposed-to-happen comes for a couple of different reasons. One was the run of good luck that I had at a Pai-Gow Poker table, causing me to run from the pit while I still had twice as much money than what I had, when I sat down. Another thing that prompted this build was the fix of TrackBack pings that used to work (Beta 4) and now works again. Download Beta 6 now!
That was it, as far as features/bug fixes for Beta 6: URLs to Ping works again. What’s still to come? I think the only thing that will get added before the “last” build of SharpMT will be the URL parameters on the URL dialog, that someone requested. I’m thinking of a way to put the fields there so that it doesn’t make the dialog suck. I also think I just found a bug in that same URL dialog, so that’s something else to work on :)
Beyond 1.0: Yes, Steve is still working on a better TextBox to use, that will offer WYSIWYG. Yes, I have an idea – if I can pull it off, that is – that would allow programmers to add their own tools to SharpMT’s UI. Yes, Spell Checking is a real possibility – not only do I run with it, but I also got a donation today! – and will be released when it’s monetarily possible. Yes, I have plans to allow other applications to integrate SharpMT into their UI. And yes, I plan to switch to Visual Studio.NET 2003 – which means you will all need the 1.1 version of the .NET Framework – but Microsoft has to start shipping the upgrade packs and it’s currently backordered.
Aside from the new bug I just found, any glaring bugs that other people find, and the last couple of features, I believe this bird is about to fly! But for now…
Cool. Thanks for the fix. One more suggestion/request? I promise that will be it! lol
Does XML-RPC allow for passing pings to weblogs.com and blo.gs? That way our blogrolls will update. Not a big issue.
I wonder if you could add the ability to specify other text formatting techniques like MT-Textile. I use this quite often and I’ve yet to find an MT posting program (tried w.bloggar and some other new one) that allows me to use it.
Also, can I just request that if you add wysiwyg that you include an option to turn it off? Most wysiwyg editors use MS’ DHTML editor and it produces _bad_ html.
Thanks for the nice simple program.
@Doc – It already does, actually – it’s more of an MT function than anything else. Go to your MT config page and go to: Weblog Config, Preferences, Publicity / Remote Interfaces / TrackBack. If you check both blo.gs and weblogs.com, both will be sent pings when you post a new draft… I just posted one and checked and it’s in weblogs.com’s changes.xml page already.
@Simon – Haven’t heard of MT-Textile… can you email me some more info (or a site with more info) for it? If it’s a template type tag, it’s just to MT to recognize it when the draft is posted; if they don’t do that via their XML-RPC.cgi interface, there’s nothing I can do for it – I don’t remove it from the body of a draft, though, I can promise you that! As to the WYSIWYG, I believe Steve is designing his control for “Code/HTML/Preview” functionality… we’ll know more when he’s done with his dev cycle :)
Does your installation builder give you the option of adding an uninstall icon the the program group?
It would be nice to go there to do an uninstall rather that Add/Remove Programs.
Also, there are times I’d like to change a URL the dropdown list, but it won’t allow me to edit the URL. For example if I has a link to this post in there (https://www.randyrants.com/2003/09/last_call_sharp/)
and I wanted to just refer to your main site (https://www.randyrants.com/), the URL box won’t let me delete anything, such as the text following the first slash.
And an un-do option would be oh so wonderful in the future.
Off to test RC1.
Hi,
I found a bug.
I installed SharpMT on my computer and when I start the program up it says it can’t find MSCOREE.DLL.
Greetz,
Bjorn
@Bjorn – Not so much a bug as it is a missing required module: you need the .NET Framework, preferably 1.1, and you can find it via Windows Update (for Windows 98 and higher)
